Rencontre avec la très charmante chanteuse du nouveau combo norvégien Djerv. L'histoire du groupe est courte mais déjà conséquente. Après avoir sorti leurs premières démos en 2010, ils ont déjà participé à l'un des plus gros festivals Norvégien, le Oya. Ajoutez à cela une tournée norvégienne et deux EP déjà dans les bacs, vous obtenez un groupe qui pète le feu et prêt à conquérir l'Europe.
Chuul.net : Bonjour, peux-tu tout d’abord nous dire qui tu es et présenter le groupe ?
Agnete : Eh bien, je m’appelle Agnete, je suis la chanteuse de Djerv, un groupe de Hard-Rock / Slash Metal Norvégien. Ce groupe est composé de trois membres principaux : Erlend à la batterie, il a joué dans Stonegard. Mais aussi Stian, le guitariste de Trelldom, un groupe de Black Metal et moi-même d’Animal Alpha. Stonegard et mon groupe ont splitté à peu prés au même moment, il y a deux ans et demi. On a donc décidé de créer un autre groupe, Erlend et moi, puisque nous sommes ensemble dans la vie. Nous pensions qu’il était préférable que nous le fassions ensemble et d’éviter que lorsqu’un rentre de tournée ce soit l’autre qui parte. Puis nous avons demandé à Stian s’il souhaitait rejoindre le groupe et il a accepté. Nous avons aussi deux membres de sessions : Victor Brandt à la basse, il joue aussi dans Entombed et l’autre guitariste, Stamos Koliousis de Mencea, un groupe de metal grecque.
C : Peux-tu nous décrire la musique de Djerv ?
A : On est dans le registre mélodique, je peux partir dans des voix aussi bien criées que mélodiques. Les guitares ont une tonalité Black Metal. Quant à la batterie, elle est vraiment très groovy. On peut qualifier ça de Hard Rock avec des riffs de Black Metal.
C : Vous avez commencé par sortir un EP dénommé Headstone, comment réagissez-vous à la réception de ce disque ?
A : Les réactions sont bonnes, voire très bonnes. Ce n’est pas que je sois spécialement surprise que les gens aient l’air d’apprécier mais ce qui m’étonne le plus, c’est l’ampleur et la vitesse que la tournure des choses a prise, je crois que c’est ce qui me plait le plus. Et j’aime l’émotion que le disque suscite lorsqu’on l’écoute, c’est sombre et mélodique.
C : Maintenant que vous avez sorti un deuxième EP, l’album va paraitre en juin. Peux-tu décrire sa création et ce qu’il va contenir ?
A : En fait, il est déjà terminé. On a travaillé avec Daniel Bergstrand, un producteur suédois qui s’est illustré à maintes reprises pour In Flames ou Meshuggah. C’est l’un des meilleurs dans son registre et Erlend a travaillé plusieurs fois avec lui donc on savait que c’était quelqu’un de génial pour ce disque. On s’est bien amusé en studio puis on est allé à Los Angeles pour que Matt Hyde collabore avec nous, c’est lui qui a fait le mix de l’album, il a, entre autres, produit des albums de Slayer. Et il a travaillé de telle sorte à ce que l’album n’ait pas le son américain mais très puissant et très lourd. C’est un son que tu ne peux avoir nulle part en Scandinavie, on est donc très content du résultat final. En plus, le fait d’avoir été là-bas nous a permis d’avoir le contrôle du projet durant sa production et c’était vraiment une sage chose que de nous rendre sur place pour travailler avec lui.
C : Partirez-vous en tournée après la sortie de cet album ?
A : On fera quelques festivals cet été, principalement en Norvège mais on espère en faire beaucoup plus l’année prochaine dans toute l’Europe. Cet automne, on fera une tournée mais ce n’est pas encore fixé puis on ira surement en Pologne pour joue avec l’un des plus gros groupes de ce pays.
C : Tu vas prendre part au concert orchestral de Dimmu Borgir, comment réagis-tu à l’ampleur de l’événement ?
A : Je suis déjà monté sur scène avec eux pour leur concert à Oslo et ça s’est vraiment bien passer. Ce sont de chics types qui ont pris soin de moi et qui ont veillé à ce que tout se passe bien. Donc je pense que ça va être énorme, surtout parce que c’est au Spectrum, la plus grande salle de Norvège. Mes parties sont difficiles à chanter car elles montent très haut, il va falloir que je m’échauffe et que je sois préparée à avoir le trac (NDLR : Rires).
C : Un mot pour ton auditoire français ?
A : J’espere vraiment qu’ils vont écouter le disque et je dirai qu’en tant que femme dans le monde du metal, Djerv est different de ce que vous avez pu voir auparavant. J’ai une formation de chanteuse classique et j’aurai pu choisir de chanter ainsi, comme dans d’autres groupes, mais la musique est si puissante que je ne pouvais décemment pas me tenir en retrait pour chanter de l’Opéra alors que la batterie et les guitares déménagent.

C: Hello, can you first introduce yourself and introduce the band?
A: Well, I'm Agnete, the lead singer of Djerv, a Norwegian hard-rock slash metal band and Djerv is composed by three main members: Erlend on drums, he played in Stonegard and also Stian, the guitar player from Trelldom, a black metal band and me from Animal Alpha. Stonegard and my band disbanded nearly at same time, two and half years ago and we decided to start a band, me and Erlend, since we're together, we wanted to be, both of us, in a band that can travel and we've found out it will be better if we could do it together instead of meeting at the door with one coming home and the other leaving.
So, we called Stian and we asked him if he'd like to join the band, be part of Djerv and he would. We also have two live members, Victor Brandt the bass player is from Entombed and the other guitar player, Stamos Koliousis from Mencea, it's a greek metal band
C: Can you describe the music of Djerv?
A: It's under the melodic stuff; I can also do the screaming parts alike the melodic singing. The guitars have got a Black Metal presence and the drums are really groovy. So we can call it hard rock with Black Metal riffs
C: So far, you released one EP called Headstone, how do you feel about the reception of this record?
A: It's good, really good. I'm actually a bit surprised, people seems to really like it. It's not that I'm very surprised but things have happened very fast so I think it's the fact that I like about it. I like the feeling you get when you hear it, it's dark and melodic.
C: Now, a second EP is released and you'll carry on to an album, can you describe the whole project due by june and what is it containing?
A: Actually, it's all done. We've work with Daniel Bergstrand, a Swedish producer who has already worked with In Flames and Meshuggah. It's one of the best engineers in the metal domain and also, Erlend has also worked a couple of time with him for Stonegard. So we knew that he was a great guy to work with, we had a lot of fun in studio and we also went to Los Angeles to work with Matt Hyde, the producer that has mixed the album, he has worked with Slayer. And he made it sound, not American but very big, very heavy. It's a sound that you cannot get anywhere in Scandinavia, so we're very pleased about how the record was made. On the top of that, we went there and that was a wise thing to do in order to work with him and get hands on project.
C: Will you go on tour after the release of the record?
A: We will do some festivals this summer, mainly in Norway. And hopefully, we will also do a lot of festivals next year in Europe and during the fall we will do a tour but it's not set yet and I think we will go to Poland also and we're going to play with one of the biggest act there.
C: You'll be part of the Dimmu Borgir Orchestral concert, what does it feel to be inside such massive event?
A: I've played with them at their Oslo's show and it went really well. They're really nice guys who took care of me, making sure that I was having a good time. So I think it's going to be a blast, especially because the Spectrum scene is the biggest place you could get here in Norway. It's really hard to sing my parts because it goes really high on pitch so I'll warm up and be prepared for eventual goose bumps.
C:Any word to the french people maybe ?
A: I really hope they will check it out and I would say as a woman in the metal scene that Djerv is different from what you have seen before. I've got a classical formation and I've could choose to sing in this way but the music is so loud and powerful that I cannot stand back while singing Opera when there is fast drums and guitars.
